I don't know where a majority of young America was on May 28th around 5pm ET, but the wise were watching Founders' Friday. And without making this blog a gusher or appraisal of the Glenn Beck show (b/c we ARE fans!) this member wants to discuss the issue that the last and best edition of Founders' Friday was really touching on: What of America's Black Founders?
Glenn touched on some we all of at least heard of, (Fredrick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, etc.) but eyes would bulge at unsung heroes of color that have been long forgotten in history books, household conversation and even academic think-tanks: Crispus Attucks, Take Absalom Jones, James Armistead Lafayette, Peter Salem, Allen, Russwurm, Hawley and several others.
Bottom line being, no matter how you feel about politics, it is imperative that people know the truth about Black founders, namely the 40 million blacks in this country. I say this for one reason, recently I’ve read a book that I normally would never give a second look. I was urged by a black nationalist to read “Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery.” Personally, such a title would immediately put me off: firstly, because I grew up in a school district in which the only historical period we ever learned of was slavery, but also because such a title insinuates that Blacks are not intellectually cable overcoming an abusive racial history, and as such that history outshines the workmanship and founding our people did of and in America, I do not agree with these concepts.
However, the text made one decent point: populations do benefit from the knowledge about the historical contributions their demographic have made to society. This is why it is imperative that the history of America is taught, the total history the real truth about all parties who made significant contributions to the Revolution, the founding documents, the major movements, and the beginning of local governance in the colonies. Because according to what liberal media bias and slanted public school education (the latter of which I can positively speak to… and will soon) would lead you to believe: Black Americans had no major role in history until about 50 years ago. This lie is more than just ridiculous, it has adverse effects on the self-esteem of a race in which 50% of the present children raise themselves or are raised only in part by another(due to single parent households).
The link to the episode and those like it can be found here: http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/search?q=founders+friday+
However, the research needed to enlighten yourself to the topic at hand here is found in some great text, most of which could even be implemented in schools.
Examples are: America's Black Founders, Revolutionary Heroes & Early Leaders, by Nancy Sanders and American History in Black and White, by David Barton, who was featured on Glenn Beck's show.
You can better call yourself a Black American, and no longer feel like a "displaced, victimized African-American" with knowledge of what your ancestors have done for you here.

Hip Hop Responsiblity Draft

For over two decades now America has witnessed the change in the hip-hop scene from an art form born of a subculture to politically and emotionally express the views of the Black community and civil rights descendents to an idol and material obsessed culture that encourages and unapologetically boasts about the darkest, most destructive parts of common Black society.
The forty million people in this country who look like me know that single parenting, high crime rates, minimal post-secondary education, drug use, premarital sex and material obsession plague some but not ALL members of our society, so it strikes me as odd then, that so many blacks look the other way when black people (in the form of hip-hop artists) receive innumerous international attention for promoting these exact concepts. So much so in fact, an on-looker ignorant to predominant black America would use these images to paint an inaccurate picture of the Black Community that would likely hinder future progress- BACK to the high character we once displayed.
Several black scholars, intellectuals and students are aware that post-civil rights, as social programs and legal entitlement entities have been poured onto the black community, the general work-ethic, moral character, parenting and individualism has diminished and been replaced by a false sense of entitlement and government dependence… still no one (meaning none of US) are willing to address the dozens of music moguls making millions from our mistakes. Instead, they are exonerated, praised, and used as role models for black potential. This reverse psychology has had devastating effects on Generation Y and their children. While we should not give numbers complete merit as there are societal factors which influence how we view these numbers, and while we cannot perfectly compare the black race to others in terms of measurement, there are statistics undeniably proving (if you didn’t already believe) that Blacks are still not attaining what all of these “programs” were designed to enable.
As of today nearly 1/5 of our children will not graduate high school, 14.5 are immediately enrolled in 4-year or higher institutions thereafter according to the National Center for Education statistics. http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d07/tables/dt07_375.asp
Now I’m all about subculture, bringing real humanity to the forefront, the issue is, this “lifestyle” of cars, clothes, money and women is not based on reality. Often rappers’ first single talks of such a lifestyle and high income, when they just “came from the hood”, its improbable, and destructive because it becomes something young black boys feel they should do.
I can not go further into this topic without dealing with the underlying issue: parenting. You do not have to be a conservative to acknowledge the lack of real strong, attentive, Christian, black male influence entices black children to find them via tv and internet. However, too often a blind eye is turned to these influences. Fifty percent of black children are living in single parent households, while it is difficult to determine how many blacks listen to hip-hop on a regular, BET has over 50 million viewers per day, and Facebook pages like “Hip-Hop Culture” and “I love Rap Music” attract millions of “like it”s from Black American Youth.
It is not difficult to see why these artists should NOT be confused with role models. One example, Lil Wayne and Mack Maine “Throw it Back” Lyrics according to elyricsworld.com
One Verse reads (in short) : “Blah, bang bang bang, shes in love with kisses, she got a tongue rang, now she got a pussy rang, she got a belly rang, I know its a BOOTYCALL everytime my celly rang, like burpp hello what you doing cutiee, bring ya ass over here and come and get my booty, oooo i will be there in a hot minute, count to 60 play with your pussy and get ya ivy in ya, you want it all ova ya, shit why not dawgg, ima but my weiner in her buns since she got me hot dawgg, she said i never gave head before until sittin dinner, with the biggest dick for breakfast and dick for dinner, she got titties like vyran dallipark, and she lick lick lick my chocolate lollipop, and she backed it up like burp burp and she threw that ass back like jerk jerk forreal …”
Granted there are two other verses to this song, they follow the same idea. History on Lil’ Wayne demonstrates he enjoys smoking marijuana recreationally. He also stated that he is "not addicted" to drinking purple drank (codeine cough syrup) any longer, like some claimed he was. He has been arrested for use or possession of marijuana and other drugs. As of now, he is serving 8 months in Rikers Island and has already been found guilty of contraband use while in prison. He has four children, most of whom by different women, and while the finances are there to likely keep them content, one must wonder how much “parenting” a man can do when he spends half a year touring in other territories, or even in custody.
Please remember, this is not a blog to critique Lil’ Wayne, he is a grown man and I have little interested on what he does and does not do, however I am deeply concerned with the detrimental effects the popular lyrics of himself and other rappers may have on the greater black youth. This appeal is to pressure him and artists like him to take their influential role more seriously. Because releasing a 20 track album filled with deviant behavior, selling tickets and making appearances all over national media and then releasing a 5 word statement saying “Stay in schools, kids!” just isn’t cutting it anymore.
Not for this conservative, the Young Black Conservatives at large, and hopefully the Black community in general.
Enough mindless chatter in songs and Black media hosts ignoring our issues because “we have more black millionaires than we ever have…” We also have more black teen pregnancies and abortions, dropouts, broken families, welfare recipients, criminals and murders than we’ve ever had. Which do they prefer?

President Calderon (MX) Speaks

On May 20th it took about three hours of sweet tea and jazz to relax this YBC member after watching Mexican President Felipe Calderon slam Arizonans (and thereby Americans) in regards to the recent anti-illegal immigration bill. I only wished for more detail.
Calderon declared: “I am convinced that a comprehensive immigration reform is also crucial to securing our common border. However, I strongly disagree with your recently adopted law in Arizona." What a hanging sentence for all patriots who, along with myself, were likely bursting with “WHY’S!” and “What part of 12 million illegal squatters and thousands of grams of drugs trafficked daily does he not understand?”
Calderon went on to say that booming economies would decrease illegal immigration, to that I say-duh! But the extra financial baggage carried in the U.S. by supporting over ten million extra bodies would be a great burden released for our side of the border, anyway. Finally, Calderon suggested the “high demand for drugs here and elsewhere” is the underlying root of the violence rampant in the Southwest. Now this is a sensible claim, oddly enough Arizona’s western neighbors in California, instead of committing to a drug-free America, (a resolve that would likely decrease border crime) is creating grey areas through their economic policies for the use of drugs most popular in Mexico, and further enticing Mexican citizens to stock up and ship their plants this-a-way.
More recently, I am pleased Obama has decided to act on this National Security crisis and send 1200 troops to the Arizona border along with 500 million in funds. While the exact role of the guard is vague, they are undoubtedly to help with security, surveillance and crime stopping as drug trafficking reaches an all-time-high.
While his motives are questioned (as should those of all politicians be, especially in an election year), I am pleased to see some action finally taken. After all, however ill-conceived Calderon insists Brewer and Arizonan citizens legislation is, they’ve no one to blame but Washington, for allowing such a desperate situation, to worsen.

Illegal Free in the AZ

Obsolete cameras strategically placed in various shrubbery around the border separating our United States from Mexico track daily, over one hundred Mexican residents climbing over the wall and setting off on foot, in car and through tunnels to begin their illegal lives in the states.
As of today, 450,000 of these criminals are walking amongst law-abiding Arizona citizens via naturalization, legal immigration or nativity, that is nearly 10 percent of the population. In fact, 80% of illegal immigrants enter the country through Arizona. It is no secret the burden this creates for the Grand Canyon state as well as the nation. State funds distributed via the federal government annually have increased for Arizona and nearly doubled since illegal immigration became an issue nearly 8 years ago.
The west coast has been disproportionately affected by illegal immigration for obvious reasons with an average of 90% of Hispanics claiming to know an illegal through relation or other-wise.
Finally, action has taken place. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed an immigration reform bill on Friday that allows police at the border to question people about their immigration status and request identification if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.
Instead of addressing this issue in a rational way, the left has perpetuated this conflict into a racial war citing anyone and everyone to be a bigot for up-holding all people to the law. And they’ve found an ideal candidate: another colored person.
The infamous Reverend Al Sharpton has decided to spin this legislation as a civil rights violation, and pledging to Work with the Hispanic Federation to engage in civil disobedience. Unfortunately for all of us, protestors of this bill have been anything but civil.
Riots have taken place throughout Arizona and even areas of California that include camera breaking, graffiti, violent threats and even slurs toward Obama. Major news outlets have refused to cover much of this violence, the NY Post and CNN referred as of late to all of these protests as “peaceful.”
This leaves Fox news to tell the truth. Sharpton was also heard saying quote: “You cannot say you are looking to stop Mexican immigration without looking for Mexicans.” Sharpton is completely ignorant to the context of the bill Jan Brewer released: A person can only be checked for identification if they Have been stopped for another crime: speeding, robbery, etc.
Then, if suspected of illegal immigration, police may ask for citizenship status. The point is, not to blame this legislation, who’s only flaw is that it is 5 years late, but blame the 12 million illegal persons in this country who have arrogantly spit on our law while demanding to live among us.
